The IT guy, not white collar and not a tradesman

There's plenty of occupations out there that suck. The IT guy is now stuck between being a white collar professional and a tradesman. Neither is bad, but being stuck in the middle makes life hard.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels as though customer's don't treat the tech with respect. They don't want to pay money for work that takes hours including research. We can't and don't know everything! Neither do doctors, lawyers, mechanics, electricians, accountants and many other occupations, but each seem to be able to charge a motza and have a huge amount respect from the public.

I suspect the whole issue is that people, now with the wonders of the Internet think they know everything and will tell you what's wrong with their system with such matter of fact. I am now at a point where I am tempted to respond to one of these customers with something along the lines of...

"Sounds like you already know what to do...off you go...let me know how defragging that CPU went"

Read this article by Dave Thompson called Money? Sex? Not for computer techs. It is what made me realise this is how people treat techs all over.

We need techs all over to take a stance against f'tard customers who seem to think they know it all and can bully the tech around (cause they're the customer). If your customer is a f'tard then tell them to go elsewhere. You will more than likely find that the customers that whinge the most, bully the most and ask for the most tend to be the ones who never pay on time, refuse to pay, or argue about price. I say fuck em'!

On that note.

You can't win everything

This, my friends and enemies is a blog based on weeks of reflection. There's a saying I think most of you would know, "You can't have your cake and eat it too". Not everything goes your way and so naturally you can't win everything.

In life there will be times where things could go a number of different ways. It might even seem that it always tends to go one of those ways you didn't want it to go.

If you play your cards loose and without purpose you're maximising the likelihood of being in those positions which go the wrong way and if you do it will seem to happen more often than not. Conversely if you live life in a way that aims to put yourself in a better position all the time then you're maximising the likelihood of success, even if someone who is doing the former still does better than you.

For example, you would probably all know a person at work who does nothing and when they do work it's always substandard. These people do succeed at times. You probably don't hang around at these places long enough because the employer tends to reward idiots over quality. You get a new job and there's another one there and the same thing happens. To most people, it seems impossible to win thanks to idiots rewarding idiots, but if you have the patience to wait it out a little, the imbeciles stuff up.

In the long run you will win. But you won't win everything.

You win! I ROCK!
Good night Seattle.

Facebook reply regarding the Cowboys v Bunnies game 06/06/09

"I've been a bunnies fan all my life, my dad has been and his dad. This team means more to me than say the Storm who's fans just like winning teams or live down there and now have a team to support. For me it's a whole lot of history and family. I watch every game with Dad and every week I have some kind of stupid naive notion that this week we'll play like the team we have on paper or at least tackle hard and make the opposition wish they weren't playing us.

Well...this is the first game we have actually just changed channels...both Dad and I said life's too short and stressful to have to go through this one.

Also...yes I think the refs are fsking the game, but if we were playing better we might be able to do well enough that the refs bad calls don't actually affect the outcome of our games cause bad calls happen.

I'll always support souths...you can't change family and you can't change teams...but please show some pride.

I don't think I can say much more there. Maybe ship this to the South Sydney team or JT. I don't even think they need too much coaching skills wise. I think on paper they're some of the best players in the comp. But for some reason, putting on a South's jumper makes ones brains not work. Maybe they need more theory or strategic coaching?

The Facebook note where this came from can be found here.

Would love to hear from someone in the know.

Oh and btw...
